On-site Programs are held at GVAs headquarters of Welkinweir, (where sky meets water), located on Prizer Road, 1 mile from the intersection of Routes 23 and 100. Welkinweir is a 197-acre site of forests, meadows, ponds, and streams. Programs are held outside, rain or shine. Welkinweir programs can accommodate groups of up to 60 students.
On-site Programs: 1 hour = $3.50/student; 1.5 hours = $4.50/student;
2 hours = $5.00/student. Up to 3 teachers are free; extra chaperones=1 free for every 10 students.

A 50% deposit is required within 3 weeks of registration to reserve your date. The balance is required on the day of the program.
Cancellation or rescheduling must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the program date.
For On-site programs: One adult for every 10 students is recommended for a positive learning experience.
Make the most of your visit and bus cost and schedule multiple programs on the same day, and enjoy lunch in our pavilion. To reduce waste, we have a carry-in, carry-out trash policy.
| Seasonal Nature Walk |
Students will discover seasonal happenings in different habitats by using their senses to explore animal movements and behaviors, plant characteristics, and other activities of the particular season.

| Exploring Nature with our Senses |
To introduce young children to natural happenings, children will use their senses to explore the seasons events and discover animals and plants through hands-on activities.
Grades PreK K; 1 hour; spring, fall, winter

| Stream Exploration |
Students will study the stream environment by collecting and identifying the animals, plants, and some non-living things to determine how clean our stream is. Students will also learn about pollution and gain a basic understanding of the importance of streams to humans.

| Habitats |
Fields, forest, stream and ponds encompass Welkinweir and offer opportunities for students to compare and contrast these habitats through wildlife activities, learning about the basic components of a habitat, and understanding the roles of food chains in each of these habitats.

| Stream Study |
Students gain an understanding of the basic water cycle in relation to our landscape and determine the health of the local stream habitat through visual observations, chemical tests, and collection and study of its animals. Students will identify how human actions affect stream health, as well as understand that all organisms that live in and use our steams are interdependent.

| Adaptations |
Studying local wildlife will assist students in understanding the complexity of adaptations. Students will learn about structural, physiological, and behavioral characteristics of plants and animals that help them survive.

| Pond Community Field Study |
Working as a scientific team, students will complete a pond survey and explore the plants, animals, water and habitats of a pond community. Keeping records of their findings on data sheets, students will also identify the stage of succession of the ponds studied and report their results..
