Track Detectives
March 13 and 14
Animals can leave behind many clues that tell us where they are and what they’re doing. We’ll learn to identify different animal tracks and signs, go on a hike in search of these clues, and create our own track stories.
Spring Egg-citement!
March 20 and 21
Eggs hatch and flowers bloom as the weather gets warmer. Discover a variety of animals that lay eggs, make your own flower, and learn about the other fascinating things happening in nature in springtime!
Tadpoles to Toads
March 27 and 28
Amphibians are animals with “two lives”! Discover the amazing lives of frogs and toads as we act out their life cycle, search for them at the pond, and learn what other features make them so unique.
Nature’s Music
April 3 and 4
Discover the beautiful music nature creates as we learn the songs of our local birds, listen to the sound of the stream, and make your own musical instrument.
Terrific Trees
April 10 and 11
Learn all about trees, how they work, and how important they are to us. We’ll “make” a tree, do leaf rubbings, and explore the grounds to discover the many unusual trees of Welkinweir.
Animal Homes
April 17 and 18
Discover how insects, birds and other animals build their homes. Search for and examine real animal nests and hideaways, and make an animal home of your own.
Water, Water Everywhere
April 24 and 25
We’ll find out how important water is when we go on a hike to see who lives in the stream and pond, imitate the sounds of a thunderstorm, and look for signs of water all around us.
How Does Your Garden Grow?
May 1 and 2
What wonderful foods and beautiful flowers grow in your garden? We’ll visit our Welkinweir Children’s Garden to discover the plants that grow there and the animals that use them, plant seedlings to take home, and create artwork using fruits and vegetables.
Creepy Crawlies
May 8 and 9
We’ll investigate the world of insects and spiders when we search for their underground homes, create our own spider web, act out the life cycle of a butterfly, and observe the live animals themselves!
Feathered Friends
May 15 and 16
Explore the world of birds as we demonstrate bird flight, make our own binoculars to search for birds at Welkinweir, play a game to find a bird mate, and make bird feeders to take home.
